The divorce is on hold

Finally. Finally! FINALLY!
Finally, a well-written episode of Doctor Who again. Finally, a plot without major holes. Finally, characters who ... stay in character. Finally, complications and surprises that neither reek of, nor hint at, a cheat. And finally, an emotional climax that warrants the tears it asks for.
"The Doctor's Wife" is probably not, as I've already seen suggested more than once, the best stand-alone episode of the revived "Doctor Who", but it is a very good one and certainly the best episode — stand-alone or otherwise — since "The Waters of Mars" and maybe before.
I know, I know: it's shocking. As a friend of mine said elsewhere, I "actually liked an episode? ZOMG!"

I'll watch it tomorrow, then.
You're making me nervous!
Meanwhile, I hope you post about it, too.
Re: You're making me nervous!
(Man, I still need to write up 8DA: To the Death, don't I? *mumblemumblemumble*)
Re: You're making me nervous!
I'm still not entirely happy with the way Matt Smith flails about the place, but everything else worked, and I think that's the first time I've been able to say that since The Next Doctor.
(I might post about it properly later. But I did write an insanely long review on 8DA today, so not right now ;) )
Re: You're making me nervous!
Why not link to it here, then?

Re: You're making me nervous!
As it stands, the only 8th Doctor adventure I've experiences is the movie — so I imagine you understand why I haven't pursued Eight any further. :) (Also, I'm just not enough of a Whovian to venture beyond the television program. Not yet, anyway.)
Re: You're making me nervous!
Yes, I can totally understand that ;) I can only repeat that the issue with that film is the writing, not McGann. I like Big Finish's Eight because he's unremittingly, uncompromisingly good - in S04 alone he voluntarily spent six years locked up in two rooms because he believed that in doing so he could save ten billion people from death (Prisoner of the Sun), and almost got everyone on a moon colony killed because he refused to blast off an escape shuttle full of people while there were still others who needed saving (Deimos/Resurrection of Mars). It's a refreshing change from Eleven!
And yes, that's fair enough too ;) If it helps, I got into the audio via iPlayer - one of the radio channels, I think BBC 7, broadcasts Big Finish stories occasionally. In fact, I've just checked and they're broadcasting Cobwebs, a Fifth Doctor story from the main series. I'm not saying you have to give it a go, but it's certainly cheaper than buying them only to find you don't like it*!
*But please give 8DA a go as well, because I for one find the main line hit-and-miss... and I think their Five misses more often than he hits. I found Cobwebs okay, but not spectacular.
Re: You're making me nervous!
I believe that. I actually (for some perverse reason I can no longer explain) re-watched the movie not too long ago, and couldn't find fault with McGann (except maybe that he's a little too pretty
not that I'm jealous). As you said, it's the writing. A good script can usually save a bad actor, but it's not often a good actor can save a bad script.I do keep hearing about the Big Finish stuff. If and/or when I give it a go, I'll be sure to post my reactions!
