Top hats are good :) Are Kinda and Snakedance the Mara episodes? I remember being quite thoroughly scared by the Mara the first time I saw those stories.

Yep, they're the Mara episodes. I loved them because they stepped beyond the usual kind of monster into something more profound and thought-provoking and symbolic.
