I've seen the Japanese version of the musical and was impressed by how well they pulled it off considering the female cast. I love the books, the musical (especially the soundtrack with Terrence Mann as Chauvelin - wow) and the movie with Anthony Andrews (and Ian McKellen!) is still one of my favorite movies ever. DO see it!
